Sunday I ran my first “official” race after welcoming Isabella. It was only a 5K but its a starting point. I haven’t gotten my results yet but I think I reached my goal. The race was sentimental to me because it marked Isabella’s 4 month birthday. Can you believe she is already 4 months? I was using to race as a training run for my half marathon in November. I signed up for the US Half Marathon in San Francisco on November 7th. I’m excited and terrified all at the same time. I know I can finish it but I’m worried that my physical endurance has dropped during my pregnancy. This is will my first half since completing the SF Nike’s Women Half Marathon back in Oct. I’m still planning to run my first full in April at the Nashville Rock N Roll Marathon.
In other news, Isabella is 4 months old. Seriously how did it go by so fast?! Today was her 4 month appointment. She is healthy and doing great. My little chunky monkey is 15.9lbs 24.7in and 41cm head circumference. Dr. Barbant is happy with her growth and development. I spoke to him regarding our unsuccessful attempt to have both children sleeping in the same room. I told him we were considering putting Caleb’s bedding in our room for a couple of weeks and were going to have Isabella “cry it out” in hopes she would get used to the crib. He told not to let her “cry it out” until she is 6 – 8 months and at this point feed her if she is hungry and suggested we keep her in the pack n play in our room for a few more months. I have to admit I was kind of relieved because I’m terrible at letting my kids cry it out. As a full time working mom I want all the time I spend with my kids to be full of smiles and giggles. Isabella is starting to roll over. She mostly just rolls to one side but occasionally she makes it all the way over. She is also starting to sit up on her own. After a minute or so she usually topples to the side but she is really trying. She even tries to sit up by herself. She is becoming more interactive with her toys and is starting to mimic us. She will blow bubbles at us and stick out her tongue. She is still talking all the time and its so cute. Enjoy it now right?! Her colic is getting better. We still have some trouble at night but its usually only for 30 – 45 minutes. Its so fun to watch her as she is learning through touching objects and watching us and Caleb.
In more unrelated news I have started reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I have heard a lot of rave reviews but I have found it to be rather slow. I’m hoping it will pick up more and I’m sure it will. I’ll let you know.

I’m not certain I understand why the pediatrician says there is a time frame for crying? We’ve had Marco sleeping in his crib from day one, and we’ve never heard that it was a bad idea, or that he needed to sleep in our room at all. Is there a specific reason you want Caleb and izzie to share the room? Most people I know with more than one kid have said that it can really disrupt the older child’s sleep and routines.
need to measure him too, he’s almost too long for me to burp him properly!!
Either way, it’s good to know she is growing well! I weighed Marco today and he is 12lbs 4oz
I’m sure you’ll do great at your next marathon!!

To be honest I didn’t question his recommendation. I’m really bad at letting them cry when they are so young. Now that Caleb is throwing temper tantrums I can ignore those because his behavior is unacceptable. I think because of Isabella’s colic I’m just so gun shy to let her cry because I’m afraid she wont stop and I won’t be able to console her. I know I’m probably spoiling her but I usually tend to her the moment she starts crying. The doctor sort of explained that due to her age she isn’t old enough to cry out of manipulation and if she is crying she probably needs something.
We decided to keep them in the same room so that Caleb will have a designated play space that is not the same as his sleeping space. I really don’t have a good explanation for it to be honest. They do very well napping in the same room but because Isabella feeds at 1:00am it does interrupt him sometimes. Fortunately for us Isabella does sleep well in the crib. However, she gets upset if she loses her pacifier at night and can wake Caleb up in those instances as well. By keeping her in our room I can quickly put her Binky back in and go back to sleep. We were trying to decide if we should keep Caleb with us and have her get used to not have her Binky at night and that is what I meant by letting her “cry it out.” However, we decided not to after talking to the doctor. Isabella is good about going to sleep in the pack n play when we put her down even when she is awake so I think converting her to the crib full time wont be hard. We have had quite a few people recommend co-sleeping while she is colicky but I don’t want her to get into that habit and she sleeps well in the pack n play.
I can’t believe Marco is only 12lbs with how tall he is. If Isabella is 24 inches he has to be closer to 27 or 28. He felt so tall to me when you came to visit. You will probably have to start burping him while he is sitting. Of course is beyond adorable. I also show Caleb and Isabella Marco’s pictures from his website. We are trying to teach Caleb, Marco’s name but right now all babies are “BAY-BEEEE” but we are coming along. Isabella just giggles because she thinks all babies are cute, especially herself.
I have you read Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy? I’m told these books are great but I’m really not into the first book yet.
